Artist Statement
Nancy Benoy is a contemporary abstract artist and educator based in Hamilton, Ontario. Nancy’s practice spans over 20 years. Her art and teaching practices are rooted in self-expression, experimentation, curiosity and play.
Spirited and always up for a creative adventure, Nancy is fascinated by the potential of materials. Like a kid in a candy store, Nancy wants to try everything, and this indecision becomes an uninhibited exploration. Nancy started off as a painter in oil, then moved to acrylic, has played with watercolour, collage and most recently has expanded her practice into assemblage and sculpture, using wood offcuts to embrace a more sustainable approach. Who knows what materials will inspire her next!
